Kids Corner - Bows Arrows and Blow Guns

Tallest BowHow tall was the allest bow? The Spaniards were not able to draw back the bows of the Cherokee because they didn't have the strength. From boyhood the Cherokee's learned to hunt with bows, by the time they reached manhood they could pull back the largest bows to hunt and provide for their family.

On the left is an example of an ancient bow, it was actually another foot taller than the picture shows.

These are just a few things we learned from the Blow Guns and Bow and Arrow Presentation. Our Guest speaker was Bill Payne President of the Broken Arrow Bow Hunters Association.

Getting Instructions on how to place an arrow on the bow.

We were able to see many examples of Arrowheads and other artifacts brought by Theresa who also gave the presentation on Blow Guns. Cherokee males were taught to us a blow gun before being given a bow.

The Children had questions for Bill especially when he helped them to hold and position the arrows on the bow.

Holding the Bow

It was wonderful to be able to touch, feel and hold so many styles of bows. Everyone was fascinated.

After the presentation Bill allowed everyone to come up and examine the many different types of bows he brought for us to see.
